Nope it wasn’t working the ground, it wasn’t to fall asleep so he could create a women, it was naming the animals. The first job that God gave man was to establish an identity for all the living creatures on the Earth. Seems tedious and kind of boring.
But that’s the first thing God does with us too. He names us, gives us an identity. Paul clarifies this in Galatians 4:7 when he says that we are “not slaves, but sons…and fellow heirs.” He’s already established an identity for us. We’ve already been named.
Something to remember the next time you’re called something less than flattering.
